Map Out Your Future – But Do It In Pencil*.

A few posts ago, I wore a pencil skirt. I explained how I had another pencil skirt which was still unworn because of my VBO hatred. However, thanks to a peplum top from ASOS, I felt confident enough to wear the skirt FINALLY!

Skirt – ASOS

Peplum top – ASOS

Cardigan – Evans

I love how this outfit turned out and I didn’t feel self conscious at all. Can you see the outline of my stomach? No you can’t! Its funny how looking at something from the eyes of someone else and what you were worried about suddenly isn’t obvious or even visible. Its why blogging has really helped me like how I look even more!

The outfit is (unintentionally) very 1960s – which is why the Husband thought it would be authentic to take the pictures in the kitchen!! – and I’m really happy I can at last wear the skirt. I was tempted to buy the same top in lilac but its now sold out – typical! I also think wearing my wedged shoes helped make me feel less dumpy and belly conscious. Just need a tan pair now – anyone got any recommendations for a tan pair of wedges?

This last picture is a very Em picture so I thought I would include it!

  1. I LOVE this outfit so much, Claire! You look fantastic! I’m glad you found a way to wear the skirt that you feel comfortable in.
The combination of the pencil skirt and the peplum top looks so fantastic, I think I have to search for a peplum top for me… :)

  2. LOVE LOVE LOVE this! As a fellow VBO avoider, I think it’s an amazingly clever solution and this silhouette looks amazing on you – think it might be my new fave monkey outfit saru-sensei!

  3. Having a visible stomach outline is one of the few hangups I have left about my own body too. And it’s funny, because lot of bloggers are proud of their tummies and where skirts that outline them and I think they look amazing, but I can’t bring myself to do the same yet. Maybe that will be my next mountain to conquer….

Anyway, this is all irrelevent really because i can’t see your tummy at all, and this outfit is sooo gorgeous. I need to try out the peplum trend sometime soon. I love love love the pattern of that skirt.

  4. I love this look, I’ve been afraid of pencil skirts and was ambivalent towards peplum tops but now I can totally see how to rock them both. You look lovely, the outfit really suits you.

  5. Love love love this on you. It is such a good look on you. Makes you look really tall and very slim lined.Your legs look fantastic. Lots of envy going on here!!! It a kind of look you could change with different shoes, bag and jewellery.
    10/10!

  6. Cute cute cute!!! I also bought the peplum tee in black and lilac because I thought it would be cute way to camouflage my VBO (also one of my last body hangups) and am going to wear mine with skirts, shorts and cropped pants this summer. I love how you styled it with the pencil skirt. The whole ensemble is attractive and looks great on you. The fact that it’s really comfortable is just icing on the cake.

  7. Really, really lovely outfit, Claire! I love the scallop lace detailing on the skirt. Reminds me of one of my favorite dresses! I also like the peplum top a lot :) . I wanted the lilac, too, but settled on the coral one after I saw it was sold out.

  8. Wowzers! You look smokin’ hot! This is a great outfit! That is such a beautiful skirt and the top is PERFECT with it. I am not a fan of the VBO for myself either. Power to the ladies who are all about it, but it’s not really for me, so I understand wanting to wear an item of clothing, but just not feeling comfortable in it. You nailed it with this top, it’s like they were made for one another.
