Double Denim

Ever since I saw Amy from Wolfwhistle wear this outfit, I’ve been obsessed with finding a denim shirt so I could wear a similar outfit. However, my search for a shirt that fits has been frustrating. I bought it this one from Style369 (before my Evans/Style369 year long boycott), I ordered it in a size 26 – usually plenty big enough for me – and it barely did up! Alas the bigger sizes had sold out on both sites by the time I had returned it.

I then won one on eBay. Again a 26 and again it was FAR too small! Kirsty inherited that one – you can see her wearing it here.

So when I put out the cry on Twitter lots of people came back and pointed me to Very.co.uk and this shirt. I learnt from my previous mistakes and sized up to a 28. The shirt arrived over the weekend and you know what, once again its JUST fits! What is it with denim shirts? Why do the run so small? Or is it just me??

Anyway – here is how I wore it this week:

Denim Shirt – very.co.uk

Wide legged jeans  - Evans

Shoes – Dorothy Perkins

Earrings – ASOS

I don’t like the outfit. I didn’t feel comfortable in it and looking at these pictures, I look like my mum! Don’t get me wrong my mum dresses great for a 61 year old – but I’m NOT 61. The shirt is a bit too tight for me to wear with the jeans but I’m sure it’ll be better with skirts. I might have to buy a men’s XXXL shirt to get the fit I want.

Oh well – you win some you lose some.

  1. I love the shirt but I see what you mean. They have it up to a couple of sizes bigger though or have you given up? I have trouble with any kind of shirt as I’m busty, they tend to gape or the buttons pop open. :0(

  2. yep I think being too small is a universal denim shirt thing. When I bought mine last year I sized up to get a good fit but shoulders are a bit bigger than I’d like.

I think it could look good unbuttoned over a vest too, or over the peach dress like Naomi wore, depends if you are up for a bit of shameless style stealing! lol!

  3. I’m with you Gina, I think it would look great unbuttoned, similar to how Naomi wore hers with the New Look lace dress, its a great colour too, but understand how you want the “baggy” look, try a chaps, it might be what you’re looking for!! xx

  4. I agree with the ladies and it was the first thought that came to mind when I saw this… wear it open with a cute top underneath and you will be set to go!

    Love the earings… so pretty!

  5. I also seem to have problems with the sizing of denim shirts. I bought mine from Forever21 and have found that stretching it out when it’s wet helps.

I love this outfit – think I’m going to have to try some double deniming very soon! xx

  6. This is actually a nice look Claire. I am loathe to try double denim (especially since I am only JUST breaking back into denim), but this works really nicely with the contrasting blue tones and your skin. I always have difficulty with button down shirts, so I’m not sure if that’s only a denim thing or no. I can see a little of what you are saying about the fit – but t isn’t bad and you could try stretching it out a little, like Jess suggested. I like this. For me – double denim is usually something I loathe – so, hon, I’m impressed. x.

    • Thanks Em! You know I think that this is the 1st time you’ve commented on my blog :P

I think its just because its very similar to something my mum would wear. I’m gonna try with different colour and style jeans & see if i like it better. I loved fact Amy was wearing her’s with super skinnies.

      • I just had to retrace a little to see if at least one other comment had got through. I am not a big commenter, but have certainly been here before… I’ve only JUST started affiliating those comments back to my “twitter” etc. Gosh, I was worried for a second! I had to stalk myself back to a previous post to make sure at least one other comment was here … You’ll see. xxx.

  7. I really like the top Claire! But I agree about the sizing of them being small, mine is 2 sizes bigger than my usual size…it’s a mystery! Perhaps because its a ‘boyish’ style of top they aren’t cut so generously in the chest as other blouses/tops? I have worn mine with red skinnies – double denim with extra colour :-)
